Post-construction cleaning: 7 things to know before you move in

Rough versus fine cleaning, paint and silicone residue, how long it takes and what it costs.

Machine floor cleaning in a newly finished empty flat

The renovation is over, but the home is not ready to live in. Post-construction cleaning is different from regular cleaning: fine dust settles everywhere, and paint or silicone removed the wrong way scratches surfaces.

1. Rough and fine cleaning are separate jobs

Rough cleaning removes debris and films; fine cleaning only makes sense afterwards.

2. Dry first, then wet

Fine dust turns to mud with water, so vacuum first with a HEPA vacuum.

3. Glass scraper, not a razor

Use it on wet glass at a flat angle.

4. Solvent for silicone

Soften and lift it with a plastic spatula.

5. The right machine for the floor

Parquet is never wet-machined.

6. How long and how much?

About a day and a half for 120 m². Use our calculator for an estimate.
